The Myth That America's Military Has Become Weak

Living in a region with a huge U.S. military presence, it is difficult to take Republican claims that America's military has become second rate during the Obama presidency for anything other than untrue sound bites aimed at the uninformed and ignorant.  In fact, America's 2012 military spending budget was equal to the combined spending of the next 10 nations' military spending.  That's right, equal to then next 10 largest military budgets.  Our navy continues to dwarf other navies and has 19 of the 31 aircraft carriers in the world.  Business Insider piece from two years ago - little has changed in the interim - looks at the lies that the likes of Marcobot, Ted Cruz and Donald Trump are now using to dupe the ignorant and uninformed.  Here are excerpts:
American military might is beyond question.  This chart [above] from April 2013, which is making the rounds again, shows that America's 2012 defense budget surpassed that of the next 10 countries combined.
Another example of American military dominance is all of the world's aircraft carriers: The U.S. has 19 aircraft carriers (including 10 massive ones), compared to 12 operated by other countries.
