RNC Chair Praises Hate Groups and Reiterates GOP Opposition To Same-Sex Marriage

Election Day in the 2014 midterm elections is less than a month away and Reince Priebus, RNC chairman, just sent a reminder to LGBT Americans and all fair minded people who believe in the separation of church and state that the GOP and its candidates are the antithesis to life. liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all Americans.  Worse yet, Priebus praised hate group leaders who not only are leading hate merchants in the Christofascists' war on LGBT Americans, but who also would subvert the U.S. Constitution in favor of a far right Christian theocracy.  What should decent people do who support the Constitution and religious liberty for all do?  Get out and vote Democrat on election day and get as many of your family and friends to do so as possible. Here in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia that means voting against Ed Gillespie, Scott Rigell, Bob Wittman, and Randy Forbes.  Think Progress reports on Priebus' disgusting statements.  Here are excerpts:
Twenty-four hours after the Supreme Court announced it would not consider appeals of lower court rulings legalizing same-sex marriage in five states, effectively paving the way for couples to marry in Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, Colorado, and Wisconsin, the head of the
Republican National Committee warned that these unions could undermine American society.

Appearing on MSNBC’s The Daily Rundown on Tuesday, Reince Priebus reiterated the GOP’s support for a constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman, before arguing that social conservatives like David Lane and Tony Perkins are “right to be concerned about what’s happened here in this country over the last couple of years.” Preibus also seemed to support Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) push to introduce a constitutional amendment prohibiting the federal government from changing state marriage laws.

Suggesting that the nation is hurt by same-sex families and quoting men who claim that if gays are permitted to marry “America will ultimately collapse,” is at odds with the GOP’s promise to be more tolerant toward gay people.

But both David Lane of the American Renewal Project and Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council lead or are affiliated with organizations that the Southern Poverty Law Center considers “hate groups.” Perkins has described gay people as “vile,” while Lane has called for “war” against the “pagan onslaught imposing homosexual marriage.”
In close elections, the LGBT community and its allies can make a difference between winning and losing in.  But we have to ALL get out and vote to keep the enemies of equality from winning elections.  I urge all readers to get out and vote AGAINST every GOP candidate on the ballot and, if you are interviewed in an exit poll, to state why you voted a straight Democratic ticket.
