Nazi Pope to Resign By Month End

In a surprising but most welcomed move from this blog's perspective the villainous Pope Benedict XVI, a/k/a Pope Palpatine, a/k/a the Nazi Pope will resign effective February 28, 2013.  No Pope has resigned from the papacy in over 600 years.  While citing health and age issues, one cannot help but wonder whether Benedict worries that some new bombshell might be forthcoming from the massive document dump in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles or elsewhere that could seriously damage the Vatican.  For over twenty years as head of the Inquisition, Benedict had his finger prints all over files involving predator priests and may well have ordered their protection and the obstruction of justice.  Obviously, should some possible new explosive expose be forthcoming, it would be a wonderful development in exposing the utter filth that is the Church hierarchy.  Here are details from the Washington Post:

Pope Benedict XVI announced Monday that he would resign Feb. 28 — the first pontiff to do so in nearly 600 years. The decision sets the stage for a conclave to elect a new pope before the end of March.  The 85-year-old pope announced his decision in Latin during a meeting of Vatican cardinals on Monday morning.

He emphasized that carrying out the duties of being pope — the leader of more than a billion Roman Catholics worldwide — requires “both strength of mind and body.”

The last pope to resign was Pope Gregory XII, who stepped down in 1415 in a deal to end the Great Western Schism among competing papal claimants.

Benedict called his choice “a decision of great importance for the life of the church.”

The move sets the stage for the Vatican to hold a conclave to elect a new pope by mid-March, since the traditional mourning time that would follow the death of a pope doesn’t have to be observed.

There are several papal contenders in the wings, but no obvious front-runner — the same situation when Benedict was elected pontiff in 2005 after the death of Pope John Paul II.

Sadly, Benedict and his predecessor, the less than saintly John Paul II worked to stack the college of cardinals with reactionary hacks, so the likelihood of a modernizing Pope being selected is probably remote.
